Arizona in general has become central to Western United States Sports. From Arizona State University and associated college sports to the Internationally known and revered Phoenix Suns National Basketball Team, our area is no stranger to competetive sports. High School sports is growing in popularity every year, here and around the United States, and we continue to generate a huge fan base in support of youth sporting events.

If you're looking for a game, ticket pricing, your favorite team or player, let us guide you to exactly where you can find the information you need.

The Arizona Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals settled in our great state in 1988 and brought with them a tremendous history. Previously the St. Louis Cardinals, the name was officially changed in 1994. Then, on November 7, 2000, voters in Maricopa County passed Proposition 302, the Tourism and Sports Initiative, to help fund a new stadium for the Cardinals, Tostitos Fiesta Bowl, and host of the 2008 Super Bowl, in addition to providing revenue for Cactus League spring training baseball, tourism, and youth recreation. The 454,785 "yes" votes spelled a plurality of 33,123 votes (51.89 percent). The new venue opened in 2006.

Arizona Rattlers are an Arena Football League team, based in Phoenix, Arizona, that began play as a 1992 expansion team. The team began play in 1992. They play their home games in the US Airways Center, which they share with the Phoenix Suns of the National Basketball Association. The Rattlers are one of the AFL's leading franchises and are currently one of the Arena Football teams with the longest tenure in one city, surpassed only by two other long running teams, the Tampa Bay Storm and the Orlando Predators. They were coached by former Dallas Cowboys and Arizona State University star Danny White, which had lent considerable credibility to the team over the years. The Rattlers currently compete in the Western Division of the American Conference.

The Phoenix Suns have a great history and are, year after year, front contenders in the NBA. Steve Nash heads up this team and they continue to wow fans and their competition. The Suns involvement doesn't stop at athletics, most recently receiving 5 Emmy nominations, three of which come from Suns.com video productions. The Suns recently announced their 2007 grant recipients, awarding more than $760,000 to 103 organizations throughout Arizona. Those are our Suns - more than just a great basketball team!

When Phoenix became one of eight cities awarded a women's professional basketball team in 1997, the city welcomed the Mercury with open arms. Beginning with Michele Timms and Jennifer Gillom in the WNBA's original player allocation that year through their selection of Diana Taurasi with the first overall pick in the 2004 WNBA Draft, the Phoenix Mercury have been fortunate to land some of the top talent the women's game has to offer.
